Automatic irrigation system installation in Chișinău and across Moldova

A system designed around your garden plan, installed turnkey, with a smart controller and separate zones for lawn and plants.

Lawn with an automatic irrigation system next to a decorative bed of pink gravel and dwarf conifers

Starting price

32,000MDL / project

For a standard 200–300 m² yard with lawn and 2–3 planting zones. Includes design, Hunter/Rain Bird components, installation and commissioning.

  • Hunter or Rain Bird components: 5+ years without hassle
  • Separate zones: pop-up sprinklers on the lawn, drip lines for plants, flower beds
  • Smart controller with rain sensor and Wi-Fi connection
  • Professional winterising included in the first year

Why automatic instead of manual

A 100 m² lawn needs ~250 litres of water a day in July. With a hose, that means 45 minutes standing there watering properly. With an automatic irrigation system, the controller starts at 5 a.m. (minimal evaporation), waters each zone exactly as much as it needs and stops if it rains. Water savings compared with hose watering are 30–40%, so within 3–4 years the system pays for itself from the water bill alone.

Components we use

  • Hunter PGP or Rain Bird 5000 pop-up sprinklers for lawns, 5–11 m radius
  • MP Rotator static nozzles for small areas, with very even coverage
  • Pressure-compensating drippers at 2–4 L/h for plantings, to save water
  • Hunter Hydrawise or X-Core controller with rain sensor
  • Filters and pressure reducers on every zone

A Moldovan specific: winterising

Winters below -20 °C destroy any system left full of water. Every system we install includes automatic drain valves, plus a winterising visit in November when we blow the system out completely with a compressor. The first winterising is included in the price. In later years it is covered by a service contract, ~2,500 MDL/year.

Four stages, no surprises at the end.

  1. Hydraulic design

We calculate the available pressure and flow. We split the garden into zones (lawn, plantings, shrubs, flower beds). We choose sprinklers and drippers based on the real square metres, not a rough guess.

  2. Trenching and installation

Trenching with a 30 cm mini excavator keeps disruption to a minimum. PE pipe at 32 mm for the main lines, 25 mm for the branches. Every connection is pressure-tested before backfilling.

  3. Controller and commissioning

We install a Wi-Fi controller (Hunter Hydrawise or equivalent) and a rain sensor. We programme it by season, with different run times in spring and July.

  4. Winterising and annual service

November: we blow the system out with a compressor. April: start-up, sprinkler checks, adjustments. Annual contract available.

What clients ask us.

Can irrigation be added to an existing garden without tearing everything up?

Yes. We use 30 cm mini excavators and special pipe-pulling ploughs to run pipes under the lawn with minimal damage. We repair the affected strips with turf or seed, and within 2–3 weeks you can't tell.

How much power does the controller use?

Under 5 W. The controller stays plugged in all the time. The energy cost per season is negligible, under 30 MDL/year.

Can I control the system from my phone?

Yes, Hunter Hydrawise controllers have an iOS/Android app. You set the schedule, see water usage and get a notification if there is heavy rain or a problem (abnormal flow).

How do you handle watering for plants, not just the lawn?

With separate drip zones. Plantings need less water, more often. We set the controller to water the lawn at 6 a.m., the plantings at 6 a.m. on another zone and the flower bed drip lines on a third zone, each with its own run time.
